FAQs about Versid temperature acquisition modules

HOW ARE VERSID TEMPERATURE AcQUISITION UNITS CALIBRATED?

Each Versid temperature acquisition unit is calibrated during manufacturing and final testing with a NIST certification.

WHAT ABOUT RE-CALIBRATION?

Every Versid module is calibrated and tested to NIST standards twice prior to shipment and should, under normal usage, not need further calibration during its life. The accuracy of the unit will not change over time unless it is physically damaged. Calibration cannot be changed in the field.

WHAT IF MY TAM UNIT IS DAMAGED?

If you suspect damage has affected your temperature acquisition unit, you can verify accuracy by taking the temperature of a properly prepared ice water bath. If warranted, you can return your unit to Versid, Inc. We can provide a certificate of accuracy, testing the unit against NIST traceable standards.

WHAT CAUSES INACCURATE FOOD TEMPERATURE READINGS?

There are at least two major factors that determine the accuracy of any given temperature reading taken using a Versid module. The first factor is the accuracy of the Versid module itself. The second factor is the accuracy of the thermocouple probe that is attached to the Versid module. In almost all instances, inaccurate temperature readings are caused by a faulty or damaged thermocouple probe.

HOW DOES FACTORY CALIBRATION COMPARE TO REAL-WORLD USE?

Factory calibration is set against an "ideal" type K thermocouple standard. In the real world, very few thermocouples meet this ideal standard. You should carefully check the accuracy standard specified for the thermocouple you are using to understand its effect on the overall accuracy of your temperature readings. Contact the manufacturer of your thermocouple probe for more information regarding its accuracy specification.
